Bird life on Estuary

There are large numbers of resident wekas on the farm. There are kiwis in the bush behind the house. Godwits visit the estuary every year on their migratory course. There are large pockets of undeveloped native bush that are home to an extensive array of birdlife including kiwi. The farm runs the length the Okari estuary with the Okari River on the northern boundary. Cape Foulwind area is one of the few remaining pockets of weka in New Zealand.

Kayaking is safe in the estuary and up Okari River. We provide kayaks and lifejackets. Swimming is safe in the river and in the sea.  Kaimoana – surfcasting on beach, food gathering on estuary, trout fishing in river.
